The Course
This book has been designed to cover all of the learning outcomes for the Cambridge IGCSE® Physics 0625 syllabus for examinations from 2016 onwards. You should be aware that the syllabus can vary slightly from year to year
Examination Structure
All candidates are expected to take three separate examination papers as outlined below.
Candidates who have studied the Core syllabus content will take Papers 1, 3 and either 5 or 6. The maximum grade that can be achieved from these papers is C.
Candidates who have studied the Core and Supplement syllabus content will take Papers 2, 4 and either 5 or 6. The maximum grade that can be achieved from these papers is A*.
Papers 1 and 2 are multiple-choice papers. These papers:
- take 45 minutes to complete
- consist of 40 items of the four-choice type
- test assessment objectives AO1 (Knowledge with understanding) and AO2 (Handling information and problem solving)
- are weighted at 30% of the final total mark.
Papers 3 and 4 are written papers. These papers:
- take 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete
- consist of short-answer and structured questions
- test assessment objectives AO1 and AO2
- are weighted at 50% of the final total mark.
Candidates will take either Paper 5 or Paper 6, in which they will not be required to use knowledge outside the Core syllabus content.
Paper 5 is a practical test. The paper:
- takes 1 hour 15 minutes to complete
- tests skills in assessment objective AO3 (Experimental skills and investigations)
- is weighted at 20% of the final total mark.
Paper 6 is an alternative to the practical paper. The paper:
- takes 1 hour to complete
- tests skills in assessment objective AO3.
- is weighted at 20% of the final total mark.
I cannot provide past papers for you through this site (so please don't ask me!) since Cambridge International Examinations owns the copyright to these documents.
Past papers and mark schemes are available to download from the Cambridge website. Examiners reports are also very useful as they can help you to identify where other students made common mistakes, so that you can avoid making them too.
Your teacher may also have access to other past papers.
